Lucy Brown Pencil Draft

March 17, 2010

Here is a photo of the first stage of my Primeval inspired drawing of Lucy Brown as a red bellied sea snake. This is my most current project and I wanted to share the first phase of my process here before it is complete. I hope that you enjoy the preview and look forward to being able to buy the original once it is complete if anyone is interested from my Etsy store. I will re-post the drawing of Lucy on my deviant art later once it is complete, until then here is a preview:

I am going to make her snake tail much longer as well as enhance her chest region before I actually ink this sucker.

Shipping Sucks

March 17, 2010

Hello all, I was going to start posting items for sale in my etsy store, but once more, the process is delayed. It seems the only way I can really calculate shipping, which I have to do on my own, and the guidelines are very confusing, can only be done by taking my 11″x14″ portfolio to the post office and getting a bunch of mailers and asking for SPECIFIC costs for international and united states shipping. This blows. I hate you USPS.

Primeval Inspiration

March 14, 2010

A cheesy yet entertaining show that I have been watching lately is called Primeval, it’s a British television show that involves prehistoric critters and a slew of beautiful women who help Professor Connor isolate and prevent unknowing humans from coming into contact with dinosaurs that come through holes which they refer to as anomalies. It has a bizarre story line and it is a great concept, yet it is lacking on the animation and probably should have given more credence to making the prehistoric critters appear more realistic, yet who knows what type of budget they were working with during the show. I’m not sure how much of a following the show has, but putting its cheesy and unrealistic scenarios at time, it is a great watch. This show truly is a guilty pleasure. Two leading ladies in the show Hannah Spearritt and Lucy Brown are possibly some of the most attractive new actresses I have seen. I have actually been trying to capture Lucy Brown’s beauty by combining parts of the few photos of her I have found on the internet and transforming her into a snake woman. Part lovely lady, part red bellied sea snake. The proportions are a little difficult to figure out and at times like these I wish I had a manual of herpetology in order to calculate how long her lovely red tail should be. I have already penciled and drafted most of the lovely Lucy Brown, but some corrections still need to be done before the inking process begins. I am hoping that she somewhat resembles lovely Lucy when I sell it on Etsy, even though I am not sure if many people actually know who she is, or even like her. Either way, the source of my inspiration for the drawing is Lucy herself and of course the show Primeval. Oddly enough they haven’t had snakes on the show, I just remembered some snake women in the video game God of War really kicking ass and it reminded me of Lucy Brown in the show. I could imagine her merging with a snake and becoming a sexy dangerous monster in a somewhat  Spider Man like transformation. Getting bitten by snakes and spiders in sci-fi shows typically could result in an interesting transformation such as the one I am drawing.  She is hardly an action woman in the show, but her passive and vulnerable attitude makes the viewer begin to take notice of her. She lives life on the edge of madness yet she seems untainted by it, until some rather unexpected time shifts happen and Professor Connor tries to keep hold of his memories of Claudia and Jenny… For those of you who haven’t seen the show, I hope I didn’t confuse you too much with that bit of information.

I am hoping to also draw Hannah Spearritt (otherwise known as Abbey on the show) as well as their new edition actress Laila Rouass in season 3 of Primeval and combining them with other creatures as well, even though portraits aren’t necessarily my strong point. I think that it is important to make these lovely ladies into mythical creatures. I hope that my work represents the odd and geeky side of the show, since I am interested in the prehistoric creatures more than anything. I actually think that putting hot women and dinosaurs together is one of the best and yet more difficult genres to use in a television show so a big thumbs up to the creators and people working on the show Primeval! At least they went for it and hey they did actually have some great ideas, which in turn helped me to extend the ideas and mythical qualities of the show through my art work. Once more, I will be selling my Primeval snake ladies in my Etsy store in the future, once I get a camera…

Until then try to imagine reptilian versions of these 3 actresses:

Hannah Spearritt:

Lucy Brown:

Laila Rouass:

Also if anyone can find any better pictures of Lucy Brown then what I have, I would really appreciate it, since it is sort of difficult working with what I have in order to finalize my project. Thanks for reading! Expect more to come!

Carrot Crazed Beginnings

February 17, 2010

Hello all, I have begun a journey into the wonderful world of art and I have realized that it is now time to share and reveal the work that I have been doing lately. I tend to keep my artistic world secret and concealed due to the fact that I hope to profit and gain recognition for my work in the future. My art has flourished in the past few months and I may even have the opportunity to show my art in a local gallery in the next 2 months.

The name of my blog is called Creator of Carat due to the name of my animated show (which is yet to be animated) called Carat, as well as my awesome Etsy store where I will sell my art pieces online. All of my artistic projects will be posted and distributed mostly through my Etsy store, but I will also explain my process and the symbolism behind the art I have created in this blog. So please check in from time to time, my carrot crazed nature will only expand and grow from this point on.

I am sure that readers may inquire about why I use of carrots, vegetables, fruit, and animals that I use readily in my art, as my artistic pieces are posted in my store. The  reason behind my use of food and nature in my art is because I am influenced by the natural flows and patterns in life which I have been observing and feeling ever since I have studied and practiced Taoist arts. Plants and animals reveal much about the internal worlds that individuals have and I hope to expose some of the feelings and sensations that they create within me in order to share that link with the rest of the world.  As Lao Tzu says “only those who know internal peace can give it to others” this is my mission statement regarding my art. When I create, I am at peace, I am whole. Creativity is who I am, and I hope that you all enjoy and share my work with those who may benefit from my artistic vision. Expect more greatness and wholesomeness in the future,  not  just from me, but hopefully may you find it in your own lives in your own journeys to come.

Also please enjoy the random dance, drum and bass, and electronic music that I add to my blogs from time to time, I find a lot of awesome mixes on www.mixriot.com and I highly recommend the site. This is an example of one of their mixes which I enjoyed and used during my drawing exercise last night:
